  1. Hi Ashley, Thanks for sharing the video and opening up about yourself. Your pottery is excellent and I can really appreciate the work and time that goes into it. I am finishing up my minor in art and taking ceramics for the first time this semester and its very challenging and a lot of fun. If I center better when I throw on the wheel I think I would get less frustrated. At the end of your video you set a piece on fire. What's the effect your going for with the piece. I had sculpture last semester with Santiago and her really opened my eyes to expanding my mind when it come to creating a piece. When you say you are an "Artist" I totally get it....congrats and stay focused. Anyways, keep going with your art and never look back if its what you love you WILL SUCCEED!!!!! Get out of here and travel for sure!!!

  2. Steve,
The piece that I set on fire was for the beginning painting II class I took last semester. I was trying to challenge the idea of what a painting should be. I purposely used something other than paint. I wanted people to question whether it was really a painting or not. I also liked that it was a performance piece and my class was really excited about it. I did a couple other "paintings" where I burned the matches on the surface and removed them. You can see one of them behind me.

  3. Ashley, very impressive video. I am an artist too, and I can appreciate how many hours you put into each project. I like the live pottery making part of the video and also the song during the artist photos. My favorite project is the skeleton key. Do you still have it stored somewhere?

  4. Alexandra,
The skeleton key is actually hanging up in my bedroom. You can't see it in the photo included in the video, but it also has a chain.

  5. Wow! Your artwork is breathtaking. I love the post-it installation. I am really into installation art and also found objects sculptures. I think art is such a powerful forum to express so many social, political, and personal issues.

Let's think about how you can use your identification as an "artist" as inspiration for the class project. It my be interesting to see how artists embody and express gender when creating their pieces. Perhaps studying the world of performance art in terms of gender & communication? What do you think?
